From Tamagotchi to really loose socks, Japan has a knack for really big crazes that go on for months. Right now it's piggy banks. Really! But high-tech ones, mind you, like the "Life Bank" Takara-Tomy released in 2006, which has a built-in screen with virtual cyber-people whose room gets fancier the more money you put in. Now the Japanese toymaker has done one better for gamers -- a piggy bank shaped like a real (and working) Space Invaders arcade machine. (1up.com)

Japanese gadget controls iPod in blink of an eye

A wink, a smile or a raised eyebrow could soon change the music on your iPod or start up the washing machine, thanks to a new Japanese gadget. The device looks like a normal set of headphones but is fitted with a set of infrared sensors that measure tiny movements inside the ear that result from different facial expressions. (AFP)
